At Best Buddy Pet Spa, we schedule all dogs to stay for about 3-4 hours. The grooming process takes a different amount of time for different dogs. Your dogs grooming appointment may take less than the scheduled time or it may be longer than 3-4 hours. When your dog is done we will give you a call! PLEASE do not pick up your dog before you receive a phone call from us! Coming in before your dogs groom is finished can disrupt your dog which can lead to a safety hazard in many cases. Please do not schedule an appointment if you are on a strict time restriction! Calling during your dogs groom and rushing your groomer with a time restriction is unfair to both the groomer and your dog. Our groomers work at a speed that is both comfortable for them and your dog, this process should not be rushed.
Grooming prices are based on breed, size, coat type, condition of coat, and time it takes to groom your dog. We can give you an estimate when you drop off your dog but final pricing will be determined when the groom is finished. Best Buddy is cash or check only.
In some cases, dogs come in a little overdue for grooming and their coats are matted. Sometimes these matts just need a little brushing and conditioning and come right out and sometimes the matts are too tight and would be painful to brush out. If we decide that the matts are too close to the skin or too big we will opt for the painless route and shave them off. Usually, we will be able to tell you at the time of drop off if we think something will need to be shaved. Allowing a pet coat to get matted is not only uncomfortable for your pet but also allowing a pet coat to get matted is dangerous to your pets health. Pets with severely matted coats require extra attention. Mats in a pet’s coat can grow tight, and can ultimately damage and tear the pet's skin. Best Buddy Pet Spa will not cause serious or undue stress to your pet by de- matting. Removing a heavily matted coat can cause nicks, cuts or abrasions due to skin growths trapped in the mats. Heavy matting can also trap moisture and urine near the pet's skin allowing mold, fungus or bacteria to grow, producing skin irritations that existed prior to the grooming process. After-effects of mat removal procedures can include itchiness, skin redness, self-inflicted irritations or abrasions and failure of the hair to regrow. Prevention is the best defense by scheduling regular grooming appointments, every 4-6 weeks. There may be an additional charge for this process: it is time consuming, and causes extra wear and tear on grooming equipment.
It is likely that your dog will be crated at some point during their spa day. We can also accommodate dogs who can not be crated. After your dog is groomed, they are able to free roam in our grooming room. There they can choose to relax or play with the other dogs. If your dog is not dog friendly or you would prefer your dog stay separated from others please inform us of this at drop off.
No, all of our dogs are dried by hand. If your dog does not allow us to dry a certain area like their face or feet we will place them in front of our professional fans to finish the drying process. If your dog is too stressed by our hand dryers they will be towel dried to the best of our ability and placed in front of our fans to speed up the drying process. We will not stress your dog out and force dry them if they do not tolerate it. Their day at the spa should be stress free! A large portion of your scheduled appointment time is to accommodate for drying time. A dog must be dry in order to give them a hair cut.
Gratuities are not required, but always appreciated! If you are happy with the service and care given to your dog during their spa day you can absolutely tip your groomer.
